Race Report - Round 4 F1RST3 1979 F1GP Silverstone |
|
Welcome to the British Grand Prix brought to you in association with Williams The One Make Series!. A grid of 13 cars showed up on raceday. This was the 1st time that all teams made it on time. Some had problems on qualify and coudnt make a single lap. Others, made too many.
After Monaco race and some rest on that beauty city. All the drivers showed on Silverstone with their new couple except one who appeared with a laptop to continue working on something like a free software.
At 2pm red lights went off and all the cars started to move fast. 1st corner at Monaco was amazing. No one had any incident with anyone and the race was very clean considering the track.
On the first laps a few drivers crashed. One incident was when Chacal broke with one wheel on the grass and spun, and Montesky coudnt avoid him, ending both with 3 wheels on the car. NightStalk3r spun exiting one corner with Timon just behind, but he could avoid him.
After a few laps 2 groups where made. One at the front, with Frozen and Edwards and a few secs behind, Timon and Zunik. The 2nd group was Tyger, NewtyNG5 and Iron_gr.
Laps passed and drivers maintained positions, but suddently Frozen spun, leaving Edwards on 1st place and Frozen on 5th. But he managed to get back to 1st and win the race!

Round 2 - Jarama |

|
Race Report - Round 2 F1RST3 1979 F1GP Jarama |
|
Welcome to the Spanish Grand Prix brought to you in association with Williams The One Make Series!. A grid of 14 cars showed up on raceday. Not many driver could get ready on time for such a tricky, narrow and twisty track.
After our 1st round at Kyalami, all the drivers were afraid at the start, and more than one started very easy on the throttle. In consecuence, no one had an accident on T1.
Becouse of this, 2 groups were inmediately created. One at the front, with Edwards on the lead, and one with the cautious drivers.
Laps passed and the leader pack was Edwards, Frozen and serhanemre. The fight for 2nd position was terrible and finally Frozen crossed the finish line with just 5 secs ahead of serhanemre.
At back little by little the people crashed or spun, creating gaps between drivers. One of the drivers, the one known as NewtyNG5 (previous version of the NG6), had a minor crash and loose front wing. Team decided not to stop and he finished the race with Zunik just behind.
Race continued and the leader pack started to lap drivers. The 1st one to suffer the lapping was Alexfighter at Pegaso. This was a tricky situation as Alexfighter broke after the uphill in the middle of the line and Edwards saw him too late to change his line and they colide. Minor damage for the leader and a DNF for Alexfighter.
2nd one to suffer lapping was cartandretti. Same situation, same result, but this time on the next corner, now known as Lemans with different layout.

Over in the AMA league, Ceygor, a driver of the EXP division, had mechanical problems and had to start the race later. On his last lap, he crased at Monza corner (the double right corner on the 3rd sector), loose a wheel and broke part of the engine.
He managed to get out of the sand traps and finish the race, leaving behind him all the road filled with oil.
As son as the AMA division started, all the drivers crashed on T13, known as Tunel. On the radio from the marshall post you just can hear "Central from marshall post 13th, we have several cars on the sandtrap, we need the suzuki ASAP", and lot of orange dressed marshals running towards the crashed cars.
The only one who escaped was stewartgpboy, doing one more lap with SC and red flag.
Well done to all the survivors, back to Europe for the next round.

Round 1 - Kyalami - South Africa |
|
|
Race Report - Round 1 F1RST3 1979 F1GP Kyalami |
|
Welcome to the South African Grand Prix brought to you in association with Williams The One Make Series!. A full grid of 23 cars showed up on raceday after one of the strongest qualifying sessions seen for years.
As the light changed the expected dissaster didnt materialise, except for the sideways moment of NightStalk3r and the blind buattila who drove straight into the pitwall and tagged one of the few Ligier's driven by Chacal.
After a few laps and once the dust had settled, from the majority of runners destroying their cars! the race developed into a closely fought 3 battle affair.
Out front was Edwards whose clean start gave him space from a determind Frozen who quickly dispatched serhanemre and wes to chase down 1st place. Once he got the lead Frozen failed to chill out and spun into the catch fencing at T1, leaving Edwards alone upfront.
The 3 car battle between SteveTMS, Jeeves and Tygernoot was settled when a damaged SteveTMS whilst limping randomly about the circuit was hit at full pelt by an innocent Tygernoot - finishing both drivers race on the spot (memory's of Tom Pryce spring to mind - search on Google).
The enthralling mutli-lap battle between wes and serhanemre was finally settled when wes's tyres began to blister and the Turkish driver kept Edwards honest by posting a new fastest lap as he chased the leader down only for Edwards to respond with a blistering sequence of laps to stamp his authority once more. TJBolier had his own private battle with himself to end up a distant 4th.
|
Over in the AMA league the four horse battle was finally won by NMansell in a Renaul (now theres a surprise, his 1st victory ever!) from stewartgpboy in the Williams, and set the fastest lap of the AMA race.
Well done to all the survivors, back to Europe for the next round.
